Grass fed beef is becoming a widely valued alternative to traditional beef as more and more consumers begin to understand some of the signifcant health benefits of beef organically grazing, and growing at their natural rate.

 

Cattle that are raised on grass and forages, as opposed to the now far more common grain-fed, feed-lot production style, feature lower levels of saturated fat, and fat overall, while having significantly higher stores of the essential fatty acid Omega- 3.

 

Countless studies on the benefits of Omega-3 highlight that it has such a great impact on your brain health. Some are now highlighting that EPA and DHA, two fatty acid components in Omega 3, keep the dopamine levels in your brain high, increase neuronal growth in the frontal cortex of your brain, and increase cerebral circulation.

 

Omega-3's also contribute to the maintenance of inflammatory reactions in the body, and can serve as a fantastic remedy to inflammatory diseases such as arthritis.

 

Omega-3 concentrations are highest in the brain and nervous system, and the heavily under consumed fatty acids are necessary for optimal functioning of the neurons and protection of cells. They also decrease cell death and improve nerve transmission in the body.

 

The makeup of the fat in grassfed beef is about 7% Omega-3 fatty acid, which is significant, considering traditional grain-fed beef feature only 1% Omega-3.

Here at FBF, we keep a small herd of Black Angus and Hereford cross beef cows that produce incredibly flavorful and tender beef.   We raise all of our beef by utilizing a rotational grazing system that helps to build our soils and improve the biodiversity of our grasses.  All of our market steers are 100% grass-fed and are finished on our naturally maintained pastures at a typical age of 28-30 months. 

 

Our cattle are raised without the use of hormones or antibiotics and are strictly fed a supplemental diet of our high quality hay and chopped high moisture haylage in the winter months to keep their energy levels up in the cool weather, and when the pastures are naturally not growing.  We raise our animals for 24 months at least  before processing at a local federally inspected butcher shop. 

 

At Four B Farms, our grass fed beef comes from calves born directly on our farm, and raised from birth to maturity at our extremely high standards. Our mothers raise their calves from day one on their milk and pasture. You will never be purchasing beef that has simply been bought at a sale barn and "finished" on grass at a farm for 2-3 months before butcher - which is now becoming way too common! 

 

Beef raised naturally like ours, will traditionally be leaner than other grain-fed beef, with the finished meat per animal being around 600-700 lbs.

 

Our farm-fresh, naturally raised, grass fed & finished beef can be purchased year round direct through our farm online, via subscription or "one-off" annual or semi-annual orders. Our home delivery program and household customers are now purchasing all beef we can produce, so for now, our beef will not be retailed anywhere else. 

Four B Farms seasonal subscription shares of our grass fed beef, are sold on a first come first serve basis, so we always advise ordering early.
